Hatta day trip from Dubai: kayaks, the dam and how to get there
Plan a Hatta day trip from Dubai: the H02 bus or a 90-minute drive, Hatta Dam kayak prices, Wadi Hub, the heritage village, hiking, season and the Oman border.

In short
- Hatta is a mountain town in Dubai emirate, about 90 minutes’ drive from the city, with a dam lake, restored heritage village and marked hiking trails.
- RTA’s H02 Hatta Express bus runs from Dubai Mall Bus Station to Hatta every two hours between 7am and 7pm, for AED 25 a journey.
- On Hatta Dam a single kayak costs AED 75 and a double AED 150 with no time limit, on the operator’s price list checked on 2 November 2026.
- The kayak base opens daily from 7am and takes individual visitors on a first come, first served basis, so you don’t need to book.
- Go between October and early May: Visit Hatta says most activities run from 1 October to 5 May, and summer middays are too hot for hiking.

Hatta is Dubai’s mountain town, set in the Hajar Mountains near the Oman border. A day there means kayaking on the turquoise dam lake, a walk round the restored heritage village and, in the cooler months, a hike or a mountain bike ride. It is about 90 minutes from Dubai by car or the RTA express bus.
How do you get to Hatta from Dubai?
Drive, or take RTA’s H02 Hatta Express bus from Dubai Mall. Visit Hatta puts the drive at about 90 minutes and says the route through Sharjah towards Kalba on the E102 is usually the quickest.
Without a car, the bus is straightforward. RTA’s timetable lists these two routes:
| Route | From and to | When | Fare |
|---|---|---|---|
| H02 Hatta Express | Dubai Mall Bus Station to Hatta Bus Station | 7am to 7pm daily, about every two hours | AED 25 a journey |
| H04 Hatta hop on hop off | Loop from Hatta Bus Station past Hatta Wadi Hub, Hatta Hill Park, Hatta Dam and the Heritage Village | 7am to 9pm daily, every 30 minutes | AED 2 a stop |
Checked 2 November 2026 on rta.ae.
Visit Hatta says the express takes about 1.5 hours and you pay with a Nol card. It calls the local loop “H204”, while RTA’s own timetable calls it H04. With buses only every two hours, check the last departure back to Dubai in the RTA S’hail app before you set off for a hike.
How much does kayaking at Hatta Dam cost?
A single kayak costs AED 75 and a double AED 150, and you can stay out as long as you like. These are the prices on Hatta Kayak’s own list:
| Boat | Who it takes | Price | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single kayak | One adult aged 16 or over, up to 110 kg | AED 75 | Unlimited |
| Double kayak | Two adults and a child aged 2 to 4 | AED 150 | Unlimited |
| Water bike (single, double, triple) | Adults aged 16 or over, up to 75 kg each | AED 75, AED 150, AED 220 | Unlimited |
| Yellow boat | Three adults and a child under 10 | AED 180 | 1 hour |
| Donut boat | Four adults and two children under 10 | AED 360 | 1 hour |
| Tour boat with driver | Up to 11 people | AED 720 | 25 minutes |
| VIP boat with driver | Up to 25 people | AED 1,140 | 25 minutes |
Checked 2 November 2026 on hattakayak.com.
The operator opens every day from 7am to 9pm and says reservations aren’t needed, because it has more than 100 kayaks; tickets are first come, first served, and lockers are free. Visit Hatta’s Wadi Hub page lists a break from 11am to 3pm on Mondays to Thursdays, so don’t plan a midday paddle on a weekday without checking. Visit Hatta mentions pedal boats at the dam; on the operator’s list the nearest matches are the water bikes and the yellow boat, so ask at the counter. Infants aren’t allowed on any ride.
What else is there to do in Hatta?
Plenty for a day: the Wadi Hub’s adventure activities, a free heritage village, marked hiking trails and mountain bike routes.
Hatta Wadi Hub
Hatta Wadi Hub sits off the Dubai to Hatta road, about 3 km from the main Hatta Fort roundabout. Hatta Outdoor runs the zipline, the Drop In water jump, archery and the bungee trampoline. Go Gravity runs the Rover off-road ride, water zorbing and the tube slide, and Hubbers rents mountain bikes from 6am to 6pm daily. Visit Hatta says activities are booked on site only, most are for ages 6 and up, and some are for 16 and up. Small children have their own rides: the kids’ quad bike is AED 60 for 20 minutes and pony rides AED 25 for 10 minutes. There are food trucks at the hub, and restaurants about five minutes’ drive away in the village.
Hatta Heritage Village
The Hatta Heritage Village is free to enter and open from 7.30am to 8.30pm, according to Dubai Municipality. It has a fort built in 1896, two hilltop watchtowers from 1888, a mosque about 200 years old and around 30 buildings restored with clay and straw, with a falaj water channel feeding the palms. Visit Hatta lists slightly different hours (8am to 8pm), so arrive within both.
Hiking and mountain biking
Hatta’s hiking trails cover 32.6 km across five routes, graded by colour for fitness. Visit Hatta advises telling someone where you’re going, carrying the trail map and keeping your phone charged. There’s no hiking kit for hire on site, so bring proper shoes, a hat and more water than you think you need.
When is the best time to visit Hatta?
From October to early May. Visit Hatta says most activities run from 1 October to 5 May, and the Hatta Resorts lodges, domes and caravans close for a summer break. The Wadi Hub itself stays open all year, and the kayak base opens daily, but in summer go early and be done by early afternoon.
Activities close for a while when it rains and reopen once things dry out; hiking, biking and kayaking stay open in rain at your own risk. Our guide to the best time to visit Dubai has the month-by-month weather for the wider trip.
What does a day in Hatta look like?
Start early and do the water first. A day that works for most people:
- Leave Dubai by 7am, or catch the first H02 from Dubai Mall.
- Kayak on Hatta Dam from about 8.30am, while it’s cool and quiet.
- Walk round the Hatta Heritage Village in the late morning.
- Lunch at the Wadi Hub food trucks or in the village.
- Afternoon at the Wadi Hub, or a short hike if the weather allows.
- Head back by late afternoon. If you came by bus, the H02 timetable runs until 7pm.
Hatta also pairs well with a desert morning on another day of the trip. The morning desert safari is back at your hotel by late morning, and the day trips from Dubai hub covers the other trips worth a day.
Is Hatta on the Oman border?
Yes. Hatta town is part of Dubai, but it sits beside the Oman border, and the Hatta crossing (Al Wajajah on the Omani side) is a full international border post, reached on the E44, according to Gulf News.
Only go through that post if you mean to enter Oman with the right papers. Oman’s Foreign Ministry says citizens of more than 100 countries can stay up to 14 days without a visa if they have a passport valid for six months, a return ticket, a confirmed hotel booking and health insurance; others apply for an eVisa through Royal Oman Police. Gulf News adds that you pay a AED 35 UAE exit fee at the border and need car insurance that covers Oman, and that rental cars need the company’s permission.

Questions
How much is kayaking at Hatta Dam?
Hatta Kayak’s price list, checked on 2 November 2026, shows AED 75 for a single kayak and AED 150 for a double, both with no time limit. Water bikes cost AED 75, AED 150 or AED 220 for one, two or three riders. The yellow boat is AED 180 an hour and the donut boat AED 360 an hour. A 25-minute tour boat for up to 11 people costs AED 720.
Do I need to book kayaking at Hatta Dam in advance?
No, not as an individual or small group. The operator says it has more than 100 kayaks and that reservations aren’t needed: tickets are issued first come, first served. Groups of more than 50 people need to reserve. The base opens from 7am, and the earliest hours are the coolest and calmest time to paddle. Lockers are free.
Is there a bus from Dubai to Hatta?
Yes. RTA’s H02 Hatta Express runs from Dubai Mall Bus Station to Hatta Bus Station about every two hours between 7am and 7pm, for AED 25 a journey. Visit Hatta puts the ride at about 1.5 hours and says you pay with a Nol card. In Hatta, RTA’s H04 hop-on hop-off bus loops every 30 minutes past the Wadi Hub, Hatta Dam and the Heritage Village for AED 2 a stop.
Is Hatta open in summer?
Partly. Visit Hatta says Hatta Wadi Hub stays open through the summer and the kayak operator lists opening hours every day, but most activities run from 1 October to 5 May and the Hatta Resorts lodges and caravans close for a summer break. Summer middays are too hot for hiking, so in the warm months go early, kayak first and plan to leave by early afternoon.
Can children kayak at Hatta Dam?
Yes, with an adult. The operator doesn’t allow under-16s on single kayaks, but a double kayak takes two adults and a child aged 2 to 4, and the yellow and donut boats carry children under 10 with adults. Infants aren’t allowed on any ride. At Hatta Wadi Hub, Visit Hatta says most activities are for ages 6 and up, and some for 16 and up.
