Things to do in Dubai: the best of the city in 2026

The best things to do in Dubai in 2026: Burj Khalifa and the Frame, old Dubai and the souks, the desert, the sea, family days, free sights and indoor escapes.

In short

  • For a first visit, the essentials are the view from Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Frame, an abra across Dubai Creek to the old souks, an evening in the desert and time on the water.
  • Plenty is free: the Dubai Fountain shows every 30 minutes from 6pm to 11pm, the public beaches at JBR and Kite Beach, the lanes of Al Fahidi and the souks.
  • Two famous names are closed for now: the Museum of the Future until early 2027, and Burj Al Arab for a restoration due to finish in late 2027.
  • Seasonal favourites run from October to May, including Dubai Miracle Garden and Global Village.
  • When it is too hot to walk, go indoors: Ski Dubai, Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, and IMG Worlds of Adventure are all air-conditioned.

Dubai works best as a mix: one or two big views, an afternoon in the old town by the Creek, an evening in the desert and some time on the sea. Below are the best things to do in Dubai, grouped by type, with links to the detailed guides for tickets, prices and timings.

What are the best things to do in Dubai?

The best things to do in Dubai on a first visit are the observation decks at Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Frame, an abra across Dubai Creek to the old souks, a desert safari and a boat trip along the coast. Add a free evening at the Dubai Fountain and, between October and May, a seasonal attraction such as Dubai Miracle Garden or Global Village. Three or four full days covers most of it.

Icons and views

Burj Khalifa. The At the Top decks on Levels 124 and 125 are the classic Dubai view. On the official booking site an adult ticket started at AED 189 when we checked, with dearer tiers for Level 148 and the lounge on Levels 152 to 154. Late-afternoon slots cost more. The Burj Khalifa ticket guide has every tier and when to go.

Dubai Frame. A 150-metre frame in Zabeel Park with a glass-floored bridge at the top: old Dubai to the north, the new city to the south. Adults pay AED 50 on the official site. See the Dubai Frame guide.

Closed for now. The Museum of the Future closed on 1 September 2026 and is due back in the first quarter of 2027. Burj Al Arab closed in April 2026 for an 18-month restoration (Gulf News), though you can still see it from the beach or a boat. Ain Dubai, the observation wheel on Bluewaters, has been closed since March 2026 with no reopening date; the Ain Dubai guide has the latest and what to do nearby instead.

Old Dubai and the souks

Start in Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, where restored wind-tower houses hold art galleries and the Coffee Museum, then walk to the Bur Dubai abra station. A traditional abra across the Creek to Deira costs AED 1, paid in cash (RTA). On the Deira side the Spice Souk and Gold Souk are free to wander.

If you would rather have someone else handle the route and the history, a half-day city tour covers Al Fahidi, the souks and the abra with an English-speaking guide.

The desert

An evening safari drives out to the red dunes for dune bashing, a camel ride and dinner at a camp; a morning safari is shorter and cooler. The desert safari guide explains the choices and what a safari costs sets out market prices. To drive yourself, compare a dune buggy and a quad bike; for the view from above, take a hot air balloon at sunrise. Private safaris with hotel pickup are on the desert safari Dubai page.

The water

Dubai’s coastline looks best from a boat. A private yacht out of Dubai Marina runs past JBR, Ain Dubai and Atlantis, and a dhow dinner cruise is the traditional evening option. The Dubai boat tours guide compares them and yacht rental prices gives going rates. For a swim, The Beach opposite JBR and Kite Beach are public beaches (Visit Dubai).

Family days

Dubai Miracle Garden’s Season 15 runs from 8 October 2026 to 31 May 2027 (Dubai Miracle Garden tickets). Global Village, the evening festival of country pavilions, street food and rides, opened its 31st season on 14 October 2026; entry is AED 25 Monday to Thursday and AED 30 on any day (Global Village). Year-round, Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo in Dubai Mall is an easy half-day, Aquaventure at Atlantis, The Palm fills a whole one (Aquaventure tickets), and children can try sandboarding on a desert safari with kids.

Free things to do

The Dubai Fountain performs every 30 minutes from 6pm to 11pm daily (Burj Khalifa), and watching from the Dubai Mall waterfront costs nothing. Add the galleries at Alserkal Avenue, the flamingos at Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary and the 11 km boardwalk on Palm Jumeirah. The full list, including what only looks free, is in free things to do in Dubai.

Indoor things for the hot months

When the heat makes walking hard work, move indoors: Ski Dubai at Mall of the Emirates, the aquarium, the malls themselves, and IMG Worlds of Adventure, which calls itself Dubai’s largest indoor theme park. Current prices and hours are in indoor things to do in Dubai.

Beyond the city

Abu Dhabi and the Hajar Mountains at Hatta are both comfortable day trips. Start with day trips from Dubai, then the Abu Dhabi day trip and the Hatta day trip guides.

Questions

How many days do you need in Dubai?

Three or four full days covers the main sights without rushing. Give one day to Downtown (Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and the fountain), one to old Dubai, the Creek and the souks, an afternoon and evening to the desert, and a day to the beach or a boat. Add a day if you want to see Abu Dhabi or the mountains at Hatta.

What is there to do in Dubai at night?

Watch the Dubai Fountain, which performs every 30 minutes from 6pm to 11pm. Go to Global Village, open from 4pm until midnight Sunday to Wednesday and until 1am Thursday to Saturday this season. Take a dhow dinner cruise on the Marina or the Creek, or book an evening desert safari that ends with dinner at a camp.

Is the Museum of the Future open?

No. The Museum of the Future closed on 1 September 2026 for a revamp and is due to reopen in the first quarter of 2027. No exact date had been announced when we checked on 2 November 2026, so look at the museum’s own website before you plan around it. You can still see the building from the outside on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Can you visit Burj Al Arab at the moment?

Not inside. Burj Al Arab closed in April 2026 for an 18-month restoration and is expected to reopen in October 2027, according to Gulf News. You can still photograph it from the public beaches nearby or from a boat; the longer yacht routes out of Dubai Marina go as far as Burj Al Arab.

What can you do in Dubai for free?

Watch the Dubai Fountain, walk Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood and the Gold and Spice Souks, swim at The Beach opposite JBR or Kite Beach, browse the galleries at Alserkal Avenue, and look for flamingos at Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary. The abra across the Creek is not free, but it costs AED 1.
